Blackfriars Restaurant

1 rosettes

People have eaten well on this historic site since the 13th century, when it was the refectory for monks at the Dominican friary in the heart of medieval Newcastle. The kitchen deals in gutsy modern and classic brasserie dishes made from local ingredients. Buttered lobster and crab with home-made pasta, tomato and oyster leaf kicks things off, followed by seared venison with butternut squash purée, red cabbage and chocolate sauce. North Sea fish gets a good outing, in the shape, perhaps, of pan-fried cod with chorizo and white bean stew and tomato and dill dressing, while crowd-pleasing desserts include sticky toffee pudding with banana ice cream and salted butter caramel.
