Ord Drive, MUIR OF ORD, IV6 7UH
Built for a laird in the 17th century, Ord House sits in 40 acres of woodland and gardens. The small-scale restaurant is on the first floor: pink carpet, polished wooden tables and elevated views over the grounds. The cooking leans towards the straightforward, just spot-on flavours and fresh ingredients. Expect starters such as a salad of ham and cheddar with mixed leaves, tomatoes, a hard-boiled egg and croûtons, or smoked salmon pâté, then poached chicken breast stuffed with haggis in white wine sauce, or king prawn linguine in Mediterranean-style garlic sauce. Cap things off with classic crème brûlée or rich, sticky ginger pudding with ginger and brandy sauce.
