The sleek art deco lines of a vintage bank building make a good setting for this hip restaurant in a glossy boutique hotel. Parquet floors, metal-topped tables and semi-circular windows all feed into the retro styling, while the menus are all about vivid modern British combinations. Start with liquorice-cured trout with sticky burnt lemon jam, onion 'snow' and a goats' cheese macaroon, and follow up with poached chicken breast alongside ravioli filled with smoked leg meat, partnered by truffled white bean purée and crispy skin. Dessert cleverly pushes the right buttons with a malty mousse covered in caramelised white chocolate.
