1 Wharfside Street, The Mailbox, BIRMINGHAM, B1 1RD
Maybe not the prettiest building you'll ever see, but a landmark nonetheless, the Mailbox is a former Royal Mail sorting office which has been turned into a swanky shopping centre with a host of dining and drinking options. The Malmaison team have brought their brand of boutique swagger to the place. The brasserie, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and dark and moody contemporary finish, is a relaxed and lively spot offering a menu of globally inspired contemporary dishes. Kick off with moules marinière or sticky Thai-style chicken wings, and move onto a steak cooked on the grill (Black Angus New York strip). With the likes of Goan tiger prawn curry and a slate of burgers up for grabs, this place is all about 21st-century comfort food. The Malbar comes into its own in the evening when cocktails and champagne bring in the crowds.
