Macdonald Ansty Hall

Main Road, ANSTY, Coventry, CV7 9HZ

1 rosettes

Ansty Hall is a handsome, red-brick 17th-century mansion house set in eight acres of landscaped grounds amid the rolling farmland of Warwickshire. Within, all is elegantly furnished, not least in the classy Shilton dining room, where lavishly-draped sash windows offer views of the landscape. The emphasis is on British food wrought from good-quality seasonal produce, cooked without pretension and served without undue fanfare and fuss. Ham hock and leek terrine with chilled pease pudding gets things off the mark, followed by braised ox cheeks with toasted root vegetables and mash. Warm hazelnut and walnut sponge with home-made Muscovado ice cream and sweet pickled plums makes a great finale.
