The Marquess of Exeter

52 Main Street, LYDDINGTON, LE15 9LT

1 rosettes

The Marquess of Exeter has plenty of character and charm. The bedrooms are smart and contemporary, the bar has a roaring fire and exposed stone walls, while the restaurant is an equally unpretentious and attractive space. Salt and chilli cuttlefish with Thai salad show globe-trotting tendencies, but equally you might go for black pudding fritters with home-made piccalilli. It's all good honest stuff with broad appeal. Herb-crusted rack of lamb is cooked just right, served with dauphinoise potatoes and marinated shallots, and fish and chips plays to the gallery. There are sharing dishes such as rib of Derbyshire beef, and, for dessert, vanilla pannacotta shows sharp technical skills.
