15-17 Blandford Street, LONDON, W1U 3DG

2 rosettes

A real gem of a restaurant in the heart of chic Marylebone village, Trishna takes a minimalist line with its decor in two dining rooms done out with oak floors and tables, painted brickwork, mirrored walls, and hues of cream and duck-egg blue. On sunny days, floor-to-ceiling windows open onto the street. The kitchen celebrates the coastal cuisine of south-west India in fresh, flavour-packed contemporary dishes, although equal attention is given to meat and vegetarian ideas, and it's all built on well-sourced British seasonal produce. Nandu Varuval - crispy soft-shelled crab deep-fried in tempura batter spiked with green chilli and garlic, and matched with white crab chutney - makes a cracking starter, followed by a Keralan tiger prawn curry distinctively flavoured with coconut and fresh curry leaves. Carnivores could go for duck seekh kebab then tandoori lamb chops with chilli, ginger and mooli radish, or guinea fowl tikka with masoor lentils, star anise and fennel. Desserts end creatively with carrot halva and samosa with masala chai ice cream.
