The Light House Restaurant

A shining light on the neighbourhood dining scene since 1999, this deservedly popular, friendly modern outfit certainly stands out from the crowd in leafy, upmarket Wimbledon Village. Its big glass frontage - offered privacy by Venetian blinds - sets an upbeat tone of fashionable, easy-going good looks dispatched via pale woods and light walls dotted with vibrant artworks. A bright open space (which can be noisy), it comes with cheery service and a long bar down one side with colourful displays of fresh produce and an open kitchen at the back. The cooking takes an equally simple, fresh and appealing, clean-cut approach, delivering modern bistro-style dishes with an occasional nod to the Med and beyond. Expect the likes of tagliatelle with seared squid, chorizo, cherry tomato and chilli gremolata, or baked hake with samphire, pea mash and tarragon butter sauce.
