The Drapers Arms

44 Barnsbury Street, LONDON, N1 1ER

1 rosettes

In the well-heeled backstreets of Islington, the Drapers Arms has a lived-in look featuring scuffed floorboards, mismatched chairs and bare tables around the central bar. There's an impressive range of real ales on tap, and a chalkboard list of gutsy bar food to go with it. But it's worth honing your appetite to tackle the menu of no-nonsense seasonal British cooking. A starter of grilled ox heart with green sauce and watercress pulls no punches, then duck breast with Muscat grapes and red cabbage follows in a similarly fuss-free vein. Pudding hits the comfort zone with a rib-sticking combo of gingerbread pudding accompanied by whipped cream and crunchy oats.
