The Old Westminster Library, 30-32 Great Smith Street, LONDON, SW1P 3BU
Former public buildings often make good venues, particularly those built with a bit of empire pomp, like the old Westminster Library with its handsome facade, book-lined galleries and high-end feel. Here, classy modern Indian cooking combines Asian and European techniques to deliver bang-on flavours. A starter of fenugreek-scented tandoori cod with curry leaf and lime crumble shows a fine balance of flavours. Ingredients are top quality, too, as in a main course roast saddle of Romney Marsh lamb with corn sauce, pickled root vegetables and masala cashew nut. Dessert is a fusion idea: dark chocolate and rasgulla (milk curds in syrup) tart with tangy calamansi and chilli sorbet.
