8 Balderton Street, Mayfair, LONDON, W1K 6TF
On the south side of Oxford Street, not far from Selfridges, The Beaumont is a burnished slice of Mayfair elegance where bow-tied waiters bring brasserie food such as potted Morecambe Bay shrimps with brown bread and butter, omelette Arnold Bennett, and servings of caviar. You can unblushingly dine on gammon and pineapple once again in London, or there may be neatly manicured lamb cutlets with béarnaise and a side order of rosemary-roasted pumpkin. Who remembers steak Diane? Veal Pojarski? Here they are, alongside more voguish touches such as fried chicken in buttermilk with spiced remoulade. Sumptuously layered trifle crammed with fruit and lashed with amontillado sherry makes a satisfying finish.
