The Savoy hotel is back in business - and so, too, is The Savoy Grill. The team at Gordon Ramsay Holdings, led by chef-director Stuart Gillies and head chef Andy Cook, have created a restaurant deserving of the iconic name. The art-deco styling is indulgently luxurious, with four sparkling chandeliers, plush velvet covered banquette seating, acres of wood panelling, gold leaf and antique mirrors. For those with long memories, the room layout has remained the same, so among the smartly set tables are those favoured by the likes of Oscar Wilde and Frank Sinatra. The menu deals in classic British and French dishes, with old friends like omelette Arnold Bennett alongside foie gras terrine with spiced chutney and toasted brioche (served in its own mini-roasting tin) as first courses. There's a Josper Grill in the kitchen, so the beef (sourced from British herds) is a speciality, or go for baked Orkney scallops with steamed leeks and shrimp butter. There's always a roast available from the trolley (saddle of lamb on a Saturday), and there's more carving at the table at dessert stage, with a whole millefeuille presented on a silver salver and sliced to order.
