108 Baker Street, LONDON, W1U 6LJ
Although this Baker Street restaurant bears the fictional sleuth's name it eschews the Edwardian theme in favour of a slick contemporary look with charcoal grills and a wood-burning oven in the open-to-view kitchen. The please-all Mediterranean-accented menu offers everything from modern and classic ideas to pizzas - aubergine, sweet pepper and goats' cheese, say - from that wood oven. Grilled king scallops with baba ghanoush and crispy bread set the ball rolling, then hot off the charcoal grill comes crispy Gressingham duck breast with caramelised figs, or there could be a seared tuna steak with ratatouille. For pudding, chocolate tart with Cornish clotted cream should press all the right buttons.
