Centre Point, 101-103 New Oxford Street, LONDON, WC1A 1DD

1 rosettes

Thirty-two-floors up in the Centre Point building, the panorama is paramount. Once you've stepped out of the lift you're confronted with spectacular views across the capital which are worth the trip on their own, but there's some good eating and drinking to be had whilst you're up here. The Paramount restaurant and bar have fabulous views day and night through huge windows. The cool décor has darkwood floors, funky-ish lime green upholstered seating and copper tables (matching its copper cocktail bar) inlaid with black lacquered tops. And on the menu is some broadly appealing, gently contemporary food. You might start for instance with carrot and coriander soup, but equally there's smoked eel risotto with sorrel and soft herbs, or seared scallop with black pudding and cauliflower purée. Next up, pan-fried whole plaice comes in traditional guise with caper and brown shrimp butter, and braised pork belly with Morteau sausages, lentils and carrots.
