From its soaring waterside tower of shimmering glass, the London Marriott West India Quay's Manhattan Grill restaurant offers a view over the corporate cityscape. It's a modern space on a big scale with large windows, darkwood tables and a calming lilac colour scheme. Steaks are the name of the game, cooked in a Montague broiler at 650°c. Toppings and sides are extra (blue cheese crust and sweet potato fries, maybe), and the meat itself is Creekstone Kansas USDA Black Angus or Scottish Aberdeen Angus in cuts from New York Strip to rib-eye. There are a few starters, too, such as clam chowder or seared scallops with cauliflower purée and crispy pancetta, and a few non-meaty mains such as roasted black cod with bok choy. Finish with sticky toffee pudding or pecan pie.
