Close to London Bridge, Magdalen stands out as something of a diamond. This ever-developing area has a growing community of producers and wholesalers in the railway arches of Druid Street nearby, and Magdalen sources much of its produce and even local beer (Kernel brew excellent ale in one of the aforementioned arches) from here, as well as Borough Market. The cooking is a pleasing mish-mash of French and British styles delivered in a rather refined and up-to-date manner: braised cuttlefish with chick peas and gremolata, for example, followed by braised Hereford beef with carrots and horseradish, and to finish, prune and almond tart with crème fraîche. The lunch menu deal should be grasped with both hands.
