Marcus Eaves has headed the mile or so across town to head up the kitchen at high-flying sister restaurant, Pied à Terre. But here in Marylebone Village, a few steps off the fashionable-yet-unshowy high street, L'Autre Pied continues to impress. The interior is à la mode, nicely understated, with a well-judged refinement; rosewood tables, dark brown leather chairs and red leather banquettes, and elegant textured floral patterns on the walls. Service bears the hallmarks of David Moore's influence, being the epitome of professionalism. Andrew McFadden has stepped up to the pass, serving up modern European food of verve and class. Choose from the set lunch and pre-theatre menus, carte, or splash out on the tasting menu (with optional wine flight - six wines selected to match the dishes). Pan-fried red mullet comes as a first course with carrot and star anise purée and shellfish and lemongrass bisque, and main-course breast and confit of poulet noir with braised celery, chicory and a walnut and thyme sauce. There are excellent vegetarian choices at each course, too. The creativity continues with desserts such as black treacle parfait served with caramelised banana and puffed rice, topped with a star anise foam.
