London House

7-9 Battersea Square, Battersea Village, LONDON, SW11 3RA

The Rosette award for this establishment has been suspended due to a change of concept and chef. Reassessment will take place in due course under the new chef. After a recent revamp, London House is a family-friendly address that also happens to have a cracking array of cocktails and whiskies. The fabulous old Georgian building was built for the business of hospitality and has seen a good few oysters shucked over the years. It's now part of the Gordon Ramsay empire, and oysters are no longer part of the package, but what is up for grabs is a roster of feel-good British and French inspired dishes that runs from brunch to dinner. Begin with mussels cooked in garlic butter, served with sourdough bread, or crispy pig's head croquette with sauce gribiche. Among main courses, the grill turns out steaks and half a chicken, while the carte extends to monkfish with mussels in a laksa sauce, or roast lamb with grelot onions and artichokes. Children get their own menu. The dessert menu deals in comforting stuff such as rhubarb and custard doughnuts or sticky toffee pudding. Cocktails include the claret cobbler with red wine, fresh raspberries, lemon and orange.
