66-70 Brewer Street, LONDON, W1F 9UP

2 rosettes

The mothership of Mark Hix's restaurant empire pays homage to Brit Art with an eclectic collection of artworks by celebrated artists like Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Hix's patriotic brasserie fare supports seasonality and regional produce, including some lesser-used ingredients such as alexanders maybe partnering fabulous steamed fillets of St Mary's Bay red mullet and knockout Morecambe Bay shrimps. The cooking focuses on the simple treatment of prime produce, as in the wonderfully tart Yorkshire rhubarb with creamy saffron custard to finish. Though carte prices are high, the fixed-price option is easier on the wallet. The bustling, clubby Mark's Bar downstairs is the place for cocktails and fashionable small-plate food.
