Galvin at Windows Restaurant & Bar

London Hilton on Park Lane, 22 Park Lane, LONDON, W1K 1BE

3 rosettes

As London grows increasingly full of very tall buildings, restaurants in the sky become more common. Here at The Park Lane Hilton you'll find one of the earliest to boast 360-degree views of the capital, the 28th-floor Windows. And who could ever tire of the view? Battersea Power Station, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Hyde Park and the distant arch of Wembley Stadium - it's certainly worth trying for a window table. The modern European cooking is infinitely stylish, with echoes of the very smart bistro style associated with the Galvin brothers clearly audible, although head chef Joo Won also looks a little further afield. Get things rolling with seared yellowfin tuna, caviar Baeri d'Aquitaine, confit grapefruit and sweet soy, or cured Loch Fyne salmon with Dorset crab, beetroot, horseradish and dill. Move on to fillet of stone bass with stir fried pork, artichoke barigoule and coriander, or roasted loin and ragout of South Downs venison, red cabbage, salsify and dark chocolate. Desserts are equally inspiring - maybe the Valrhona chocolate sphere with milk foam, hazelnut cremeaux and blood orange, or lemon posset, poached rhubarb, candied ginger and almond crumble.
