The long-running Christopher's, an American eatery on the fringes of Covent Garden, can hardly ever have looked so elegant as it has since its refurb in early 2013. High, elaborately corniced ceilings tower over the expansive main room, where chairs in grey and lemon are offset by purple drapes, not to mention stylishly attired staff. Executive chef Francis Agyepong oversees a menu of lively Stateside food, including the likes of blackened salmon and jambalaya risotto, BBQ-rubbed tip steaks of USDA beef, and pork belly with creamed corn and plantain blinis, with perhaps a side of Boston baked beans, or mac and cheese, optionally ritzed up with lobster. More off-piste dishes work well too, as in caramelised scallops with chorizo in orange-cardamom dressing, or an Italianate sea bass main, served with roasted figs, ricotta and prosciutto, before all are reunited for embroilingly gooey chocolate and peanut butter tart with salty caramel ice-cream.
