Bombay Brasserie

Courtfield Close, Courtfield Road, LONDON, SW7 4QH

2 rosettes

This classy South Ken institution cherry picks its culinary influences from all over India - Parsi, Bengali, Goan, Gujerati, Mughal, even Portuguese. There are two sumptuously styled dining rooms, one with banquettes under palatial chandeliers, the other an airy, conservatory-roofed space with widely spaced tables. The kitchen uses freshly-ground, lightly toasted spices to impart maximum flavour, starting with teen mirch ka prawn - juicy griddled prawns dusted with pink, black and green peppercorns. From the tandoor, Kasundi monkfish comes with Calcutta mustard and a punchy mint, coriander and green chilli chutney, or go veggie with baingan bharta: smoked aubergine mash with cumin, chilli and coriander. For dessert, try carrot cake with gulab jamun kulfi.
