11-15 Swallow Street, LONDON, W1B 4DG
Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2016, the illustrious oyster bar is a highly popular, feel-good rendezvous, while upstairs, the Grill restaurant takes a more formal, sophisticated approach. Start with a light seafood cÚviche with avocado, peppy lime and scallions if opting out of the oyster route, and perhaps continue with pan-fried turbot served with grilled calcots and sweet and tangy caper-raisin sauce. Portioning is light and prices lean toward West End grabby, but ingredients are excellent, service slick and wines a superb bunch. Desserts range from classics to the more modern chilli and ginger pineapple with coconut parfait. A few meat options from the wood-fired grill keep carnivores onside.
