Buxton Road, Blackshaw Moor, LEEK, ST13 8TW
The stone-built inn overlooked by lowering gritstone outcrops in the southern stretches of the Peak District covers many bases. It's a country pub, a smart rural hotel and a chic brasserie and grill all in the one package. Original oak beams are offset by contemporary styling, with an open-to-view kitchen augmenting the dynamic atmosphere. The modern cooking takes in dishes such as marmalade-cured Goosnargh duck, salt-baked beetroot, salsify and fondant potato; and Derbyshire lamb hotpot, parsnip, hay-smoked loin and pickled cabbage. Finish with their firm favourite, syrup sponge and Birds custard.
