Ballathie House Hotel

2 rosettes

This privately owned, turreted mansion overlooking the River Tay hosts a restaurant that impresses with its dedication to local ingredients. The dining room has a classical elegance, with plenty of space between tables and views across the verdant countryside. Traditional flavours combine with a moderated degree of invention to create dishes that seem entirely in keeping with the setting. Try pan-fried breast of partridge with little crumbed balls of confit leg meat and foie gras mousse, followed by roast rump of lamb with haggis bonbon and mint and parley salsa, or grilled halibut with herb crust and an aromatic chowder. Finish with dark chocolate cake with brown bread ice cream.
