The Granary Hotel & Restaurant
Heath Lane,
Shenstone,
KIDDERMINSTER,
DY10 4BS
Out in the countryside on the outskirts of Kidderminster, The Granary is at once a chic boutique hotel (its prosaic past as haulage yard and transport café banished to distant memory) and intensive agricultural enterprise. It incorporates a market garden run along philanthropic lines, which provides the kitchen with much of its culinary ammunition. The cooking style celebrates British resourcefulness, while resisting any tendency to over-elaboration. Start with scallops on beetroot purée in a caper and raisin dressing as a curtain-raiser to duck breast with dried morello cherries, or a well-researched version of Greece's spanakopita. A seasonal offering may include fried cod with creamed cabbage and bacon, with lemon and lime tart with fresh berries a zesty finish.

Absolutely Fantastic! Upon arrival we were seated in a pleasant lounge for drinks and menu perusal. I heartily recommend the Smoked Haddock Chowder to start and for main I had the Fillet of Herefordshire Beef, at £18.95 it really was worth the money, the fillet was exceptional and the carrot and corriander puree was superb as was the gravy that I believe took 8 hours to make! I finished with a delighful Rhubarb and Pecan Crumble. Superb A la Carte restaurant and informative, friendly staff.

Just plain awful. Melon starter a rip-off. Duck main course inedible, like rubber. Expensive wine just dumped on table, not offered to tast. Waiting staff had zero skill. Lounge area inadequate. Menu items not available - they'd run out. £250 for 4 - just plain awful on every level.
