You'll find plenty of period character at the Olde Bell - dating in part to the 12th century, it's cool and elegant, with loads of original features. There are six acres of grounds to explore, including a kitchen garden. The kitchen serves up some smart dishes that show sound technical knowledge. You might start with chicken liver and port pâté, while a main course rump of English lamb, nicely timed and rested, is served with Provençal vegetables and dauphinoise, or there's fillet of sea bass accompanied by sweet chilli escabèche, roast potatoes and chorizo. Save room for the light, moist, sticky toffee pudding.
