Old Hunstanton Road, HUNSTANTON, PE36 6HH
Built around a manor dating from 1648, Caley Hall is a short walk to the wide beaches on The Wash, a twitcher's paradise. Its restaurant, in a former stable block, is a relaxing-looking room with a tartan carpet and high-backed leather-look seats at well-spaced tables. It's a popular place offering precisely cooked, quality East Anglian produce. The short menu has some contemporary touches without rocking any boats; start with grilled fillet of Norfolk mackerel, say, with a trendy slaw and apple gel, followed by braised pig's cheek and roasted loin with celeriac and truffle purée and a jus of local Aspall's cider.
