With the stretching beaches and marshland of the north Norfolk coast on hand, The Pheasant is plumb in one of the country's most fashionable resort areas. The cooking is modern British, with seafood a strong suit. Expect a smokehouse platter to start, laden with salmon, prawns and mackerel, pickled veg and tartare, or classic scallops with local black pudding, before pork belly with clapshot and burnt orange purée, or sea trout on leek velouté with charred chicory. The finisher might be banana loaf with a matching fritter and malt ice cream. Afternoon teas, with scones and crustless sandwiches piled on cake stands, are an abiding part of The Pheasant's appeal.
