The Queen's Head Inn & Restaurant

Main Street, HAWKSHEAD, LA22 0NS

1 rosettes

The black-and-white timbered facade of this classic Lakeland inn has been rooted into Hawkshead life since the 17th century. Inside, there's a lively buzz and the timeless charm of head-skimming oak beams, panelled walls and wood and flagstone floors. The food comes from the distinctly modern end of the spectrum, and it's all built on prime local materials. Start with beetroot-cured salmon with beetroot purée, horseradish mayonnaise and watercress, and follow with wild duck breast, the skin nicely crisped, with carrot and orange purée, fennel, and red wine and orange jus. For pudding, there's a coconut and tonka bean pannacotta with pistachio crumb and meringue.
