Gisborough Hall

Whitby Lane, GUISBOROUGH, TS14 6PT

2 rosettes

The hall is an imposing creeper-covered country-house hotel in well-kept grounds, and Chaloner's restaurant occupies a large space with pillars and a fireplace in what was once the billiard room. The kitchen creates interesting dishes such as a 'plate of pork' that comprises tender braised cheek and fillet wrapped in sage and pancetta together with black pudding, apple purée, mash, spinach and red wine sauce. Fish appears as roast cod loin with curried mussel chowder, with starters along the lines of ham hock terrine with pea mousse, pea salsa and sourdough wafers. Puddings include chocolate marquis with raspberries, pretzel crumb and honey ice cream.
