The Street, Wonersh, GUILDFORD, GU5 0PE
With its profusion of beams and stripped-back modern look - chunky wooden tables, wood floors and heritage-grey paintwork - the Grantley Arms is the very image of a thriving gastropub. The bar menu deals in straight-talking crowd pleasers - venison sausage rolls, charcoal-grilled steaks and the like - but in the restaurant the kitchen delivers classy modern British cooking. Butter-poached langoustines with radish, sea herbs, cucumber and oyster mayonnaise is a vibrant starter, followed by cannon and braised belly of Herdwick lamb partnered with truffled potato and three-cornered garlic. Finish on a high note with Valrhona Opalys white chocolate crémeux with blackberry sorbet, pistachio and anise.
