The Harbour, GOLEEN, Co Cork, ROI,
This delightful restaurant with rooms sits in an idyllic spot on Goleen harbour near to Mizen Head, where the lonely Fastnet Rock lighthouse beams out across the Atlantic. This is an exceptionally easy-going, friendly place, where you can eat out to sublime sea views on the balcony in summer, and the kitchen takes time to source the best local ingredients that are the backbone of its output. The menu is as straightforward and unfussy as its surroundings; West Cork smoked sprats, say, followed by pork chop rack with champ and apricot sauce, or tempura-style monkish. To finish, iced coffee soufflé is fuelled up with rum.
