Central Market, a combination of café, restaurant and deli, makes a big impression with its black and white décor, horseshoe-shaped bar, with its display of oysters on ice, an open-to-view kitchen and mezzanine floor where guests can see what's going on downstairs. It's a must-visit destination, a crowd-pleasing menu of modern bistro-style cooking accountable for its popularity. Pop in for breakfast, sandwiches or the full deal. A starter of duck confit with pickled mushrooms, Puy lentils and port vinaigrette is a great example of how to construct a dish, its flavours jumping off the plate. Alternatively, there might be chargrilled squid with panzanella, then steak tartare with cornichons, capers and shallots. Fish is well handled, judging by crisp-skinned, flaky fillet of pollock in an inventive creamy oyster sauce with salt-baked celeriac, and puddings tick all the right boxes too, from light clementine sponge cake with fig jam and mascarpone to blueberry tart.
