Urban Bar and Brasserie

23-25 St Vincent Place, GLASGOW, G1 2DT

1 rosettes

This sleek and modern bar-brasserie has capitalised on the grandiose architecture of a former bank (the erstwhile Scottish HQ of the Bank of England, no less), throwing in brown leather banquettes and chairs, smartly laid tables, and huge canvases of modern art to bring vibrant splashes of colour into the mix. Add in black-clad staff wearing long white aprons, and a bustling vibe, and you might be in a classic Parisian brasserie. The kitchen knows its stuff, producing a menu of Scotland-meets-Mediterranean ideas sprinkled with Asian flavours, a starter of smoked salmon with Thai jelly, cornichons and capers being typical of the style. Main courses can be as traditional as grilled lemon sole with tartare sauce and chips and as full-on as braised beef cheeks with parsnip pur?e, star anise gravy and crispy fennel. To finish, the addition of liquorice puts a novel spin on a cr?me br?l?e.
