Ox and Finch

920 Sauchiehall Street, GLASGOW, G3 7TF

2 rosettes

Tapas-size portions are the deal at this buzzing venue. Bare brick walls, roughly painted wooden floors, banquette and booth seating and unbuttoned service create a casual, laid-back atmosphere. The menu is divided into such headings as 'snacks' and 'raw, cured and cold', and guests are advised to order two or three dishes. Layers of rabbit, ham hock and foie gras in a terrine with pistachios, served with gingerbread and pear, is a stunning prelude to, perhaps, spiced scallops with dhal, pickled cucumber and yogurt, and Italian sausage with gnocchi, squash, rosemary and chilli. Don't stint on puddings: lemon and Earl Grey baked Alaska is a masterpiece.
