16 Byres Road, GLASGOW, G11 5JY
This tiny neighbourhood restaurant on Glasgow's vibrant Byres Road has a strong local following who appreciate its unbuttoned approach and the kitchen's creative mission. It is an elbow-to-elbow sort of space with a pocket-sized downstairs area, and a mini-mezzanine above, all decorated with colourful artwork, and kept ticking over by casually dressed, on-the-ball staff. The chefs beavering away in the open-to-view kitchen aren't scared to experiment with novel flavour combinations, so a starter might bring together a galette of Jerusalem artichoke purée with roast beetroot, figs, crumbled feta, sumac and roast onion vinaigrette. Next up, braised pork belly is served with crackling, piccalilli, pumpkin and sage gratin, apple purée and red wine sauce. Pudding delivers an exotic combo of passionfruit and coconut tart with passionfruit ice cream.
