The Bull Hotel

1 rosettes

The old Bull has borne witness to over 300 years of passing life on the road between London and Oxford, and to prove it isn't all forgotten, the smartly traditional bar is named after a famous highwayman, Jack Shrimpton. The one-time coaching inn is these days a swish four-star hotel with tip-top facilities and a restaurant, Beeches, that has a decidedly contemporary feel: think bold tones of burgundy and cream, and plenty of space between the darkwood tables. The menu is an up-to-date offering, too: parsnip and Cox's apple soup with root vegetable crisp and parmesan might be amongst starters. Follow on with pan-fried sea trout with surf clams, saffron potatoes, samphire and a lemon and chive butter, or pan-seared duck breast with glazed silver skin onion and cherry port jus (among other things). Go home happy after burnt English cream with marinated seasonal berries.
