The Eagle

Little Coxwell, FARINGDON, SN7 7LW

2 rosettes

The Eagle is a rather grand architectural affair for a village local but an air of warmth and tranquillity prevails, and the menu is strong on continental influences. First off might be a dish of potted rabbit adorned with pickled carrot, mustard seeds and prune chutney, or there could be a savoury take on crème brûlée made from Oxford Blue cheese with rhubarb sorbet. At main cod is pan-roasted and served in creamy shellfish bisque with buttery leeks and saffron potatoes, while local lamb comes with asparagus and minted sheep's yogurt. Grape strudel with raspberry sorbet and crème anglaise is a successful new spin on an old favourite.
