Park Street, EXFORD, Minehead, TA24 7PP
The 17th-century Crown sits at the heart of pretty Exford Village, in three acres of grounds surrounded by countryside and moorland - huntin', shootin' and fishin' territory. Naturally, then, this is a dog- and horse-friendly establishment, where the bar (complete with stag's head) is an appealingly rustic spot for pub classics. The elegant dining room cranks things up a notch or two. First out is twice-baked cheese soufflé with red onion jam and a splash of balsamic, followed by a steak cooked on the grill or whole grilled plaice. Creamy rice pudding with salted caramel brings it all to a satisfying close.
