The George Albert opened its doors relatively recently, in 2010, but despite its newness, monogrammed carpets and starched table linen bring a traditional feel to Kings Restaurant. Seared scallops with leeks and mash in creamy mussel chowder is a beguiling opener, if you can resist the appeal of good old ham hock terrine and piccalilli. Main courses bring all their components together in well-balanced harmony, as in the quince purée, parsnip mash, fondant potato and baconed cabbage that come with duck breast in port jus, or grilled grey mullet with pak choi in lime butter. To finish, there may be sweet passionfruit pannacotta with mango sauce and pineapple.
