The Dungeon Restaurant at Dalhousie Castle

Bonnyrigg, EDINBURGH, EH19 3JB

2 rosettes

Dalhousie Castle is a 13th-century fortress in wooded parkland on the banks of the River Esk, so you know you're in for something special when you head for The Dungeon Restaurant. The cooking here has its roots in French classicism and a bedrock of top-class Scottish ingredients and it doesn't rely on the setting for effect: it's all brought together with skill and clever contemporary creativity. Smoked duck and foie gras cromesquis is matched with spiced bread and pear, ahead of pan-fried halibut and pork belly with parsley root purée and apple chutney. Dessert is winning confection of white chocolate and vanilla parfait with pistachio sponge, meringue and griottine cherries.
