L'Escargot Bleu is indeed blue - on the outside at least, and snails are present and correct among les entrées. The bilingual menu deals in classic bistro dishes such as those snails, which come from Barra in the Outer Hebrides, and there's a Scottish flavour to much of the kitchen's output. Start with seared scallops (from Skye) with spicy Puy lentils and crispy bacon, and move on to casserole of venison and beef cheeks with a rich red wine sauce, or pan-fried sea bass with Jerusalem artichokes and hollandaise. Desserts are as traditional as the crème brûlée which arrives without adornment. The two-course lunch and early-evening menu is a bargain.
