Macdonald Crutherland House

Strathaven Road, EAST KILBRIDE, G75 0QZ

2 rosettes

Dating from the early 1700s, Crutherland House stands in nearly 40 acres of peaceful grounds. The hotel keeps things traditional, not least in the restaurant, with its panelled walls, paintings and burnished dark wood tables. The menu takes a classical approach to things, with plenty of Scottish ingredients on show, starting with twice-baked Mull of Kintyre cheddar soufflé with red onion marmalade. Among main courses there are steaks cooked on the grill (21-day hung Scottish rib-eye, maybe), or Gressingham duck breast with a leg meat croquette, carrot and orange purée and five spice sauce. For dessert, there's marshmallow Pavlova with raspberry sorbet.
