Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel

Burford Bridge, Box Hill, DORKING, RH5 6BX

1 rosettes

At the foot of Box Hill in the sumptuous North Downs countryside, the Burford Bridge is proud of its location. Comprising a cluster of buildings including an old tithe-barn with original beams, it's been done in light contemporary style inside, including a monochrome bar with comfy sofas, and a white-walled dining room called the Emlyn, which has elegant curved banquette seating in gentle lilac. Light and contemporary describes the culinary approach too, which makes a good showing of starter dishes such as chunky pork terrine with pickled mushrooms and apple jelly, and mains like crisp-skinned seared chicken breast with charred onion, bread sauce and a good meaty jus, braised salmon with asparagus in champagne sauce, or vegetable cannelloni with smoked cheese and roasted vine tomatoes. A happy ending is assured with a textbook rendition of tiramis?, or pear frangipane tart with cr?me anglaise.
