The greystone Victorian hall, in 21 acres, gives spectacular views to Cader Idris and the Mawddach Estuary. Within, oak floors, panels, artwork and fresh flowers give a real sense of age and quality. The menu pays homage to indigenous produce, and there's no lack of contemporary creative flair. Crab salad comes spiked with chilli and ginger complemented by grapefruit jelly and herbs. Then there might be pink-roast rump of lamb with fondant potato, summer vegetables and red wine jus. A fish option may be seared sea bass fillet with saffron potatoes and a red pepper and fennel bouillon, while, to finish, try pineapple mousse with roasted pineapple and coconut cream.
