Albert's Table

49c Southend, CROYDON, CR0 1BF

2 rosettes

Chef-patron Joby Wells has brought culinary prowess to South Croydon. Its unobtrusive setting and dark frontage conceal a high-quality act: Joby has worked in some of the capital's big names. Calming beiges, browns and soft whites hit the spot, with walls lined by mirrors, wallpapered panels and artwork, while service is friendly but with professional clout. The generous, big-flavoured and well-presented modern cooking hits the spot. Try a seafaring-inspired dish of Atlantic cod paired with mussels, samphire and a scallop velouté, or perhaps English veal (roast and braised) served with peas, smoked bacon, wild garlic and grilled new potatoes. In-house breads are a triumph, and wines a well-selected bunch.
