Knockderry House Hotel

Shore Road, COVE, Helensburgh, G84 0NX

2 rosettes

Standing on the shore of Loch Long, this much-altered Victorian house is a period treat inside, with a billiard room, intricate wood panelling and magnificent stained windows in the dining room. Gloved staff serve modern Scottish food that embraces modern techniques, from a starter of a circlet of chicken roulade in Parma, crispy chicken wing, a seared king prawn and some roasted celeriac and its purée, to a main dish of beautifully complementary turbot and chorizo, alongside scallop tortellino, baby turnips and broccoli foam. Similar multi-layering informs desserts like chocolate marquise scattered with candied jasmine, with honey and almond ice cream on lavendered chocolate crumb.
