The Devonshire Fell

BURNSALL, Skipton, BD23 6BT

1 rosettes

The traditional stone exterior belies the contemporary makeover within at The Devonshire Fell, all vibrant colours, bold fabrics and attractive artwork. Part of the Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants group, which also includes The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey, it's more of a boutique hotel than anything else these days, with attractive accommodation and a modern, funky-looking bistro, bar and conservatory all designed by the Duchess of Devonshire (who owns the group with her husband). The bright, airy and welcoming feel of the place is aided by informal, friendly service, while on the food front, the modern British cooking is based on top-notch local ingredients brought together in unfussy, appealing combinations by a small kitchen team. A starter of 'velouté-tomato, chilli and lime crème fraîche'-is full of fresh, clean flavours, while main-course honey-glazed duck breast comes perfectly cooked and accompanied by a smooth spring onion mash, buttered spinach, glazed baby carrots and blackberry jus. Home-made bread-and-butter pudding with clotted cream and apricot compôte is as good as it gets.
