Goldbrick House

69 Park Street, BRISTOL, BS1 5PB

In this converted pair of townhouses you'll find an all-day café-bar, a cocktail bar, a main restaurant, with chandeliers and gilt-framed mirrors, and the light-filled Orangery. The kitchen follows a modern brasserie route, turning out appealing and successful starters along the lines of smoked pork belly with quince, pecan granola and mead dressing, and cured sea trout with pickled fennel and blackened orange. No less original are main courses: perhaps poached sea bass fillet with salsify purée, chestnut and crab fricassee and smoked pancetta sauce, although there's usually a steak for diehards. Chocoholics could finish with a brownie with banana and honeycomb.
